Each employee is key to our Safety Performance and to our Safety Improvement Teams’ success. Employee involvement and collaborative efforts across all levels of the organization drive UPI’s continuous safety improvement. Through team activities these individuals participate in a creative learning environment in order to heighten safety awareness plant wide.


The Joint Safety Committee is comprised of both Wage and Management employees and performs the following functions:

  • Responds to Safety and Health concerns raised by JSC members or employees
  • Promotes an awareness of safety and health hazards and safe work procedures
  • Participates in plant safety and health audits
  • Reviews the results of industrial hygiene monitoring
  • Participates in the selection of personal protective equipment
  • Reviews and approves current and proposed Safety training
